How to Recycle Toner Cartridges

What are Toner Cartridges?

The age we live in today is constantly advancing in the areas of technology. There are not many homes across the country where you will not find at least one computer present. Computers and other types of technology have made our lives easier and more convenient. One of those pieces of technology that works along with our computers are printers. Printers use special containers to house ink in the printer for use. These cartridges are called toner cartridges. Many people end up discarding these toner cartridges into the trash, not realizing they could be recycled.

Why Should We Recycle Toner Cartridges?

Recycling toner cartridges is important for several reasons. One reason it is important to recycle these cartridges is so that we can prevent them from ending up in the already overflowing landfills across America and the world. Carelessly discarded cartridges just add more garbage to the mountains of trash building up in landfills and taking up more space. Some of these cartridges end up going into the incinerator and causing poisonous fumes to be released into the atmosphere, as these cartridges may still contain some of the ink and other substances in them.

How Do Toner Cartridges Get Recycled?

The next time you purchase toner cartridges for your computer, flip the packaging over and look for directions about how you are to recycle the product. There are many ink companies that have programs available where you can send them the cartridge and they will recycle them for you. Some companies will actually pay you for the empty cartridges. Some schools and charities collect these cartridges as a type of fundraiser. Once they get a specific amount of cartridges, they will end up selling them to a recycling center in exchange for cash to help fund their programs and to meet other financial needs.
