How to Recycle a Dishwasher in Working Order

Upgrading your appliances is always a wonderful experience.  That brand new dishwasher goes with your décor and really gets those dishes shining.  The only problem is what do you do with your old dishwasher in working condition?  Go green with it!

Why bother recycling your old dishwasher?

Because it recovers resources such as steel and plastic, it helps to have energy from new products being created, and it helps make less waste in landfills.  Haven’t you heard that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure?  Yes, there are plenty of people out there who would love to have your older working dishwasher.

You can donate your old dishwasher…

Places such as Goodwill, the Salvation Army or perhaps even local churches may be able to use the donation of your dishwasher.  You can also find someone in your community that may just be in need of a dishwasher, and do a double good deed at once- helping someone out and recycling!  Is there a young family just starting out, or perhaps a college student in your area?  You can also try listing your old dishwasher on community websites or in classified ads if you do not personally know someone in need.

Is no one claiming your old dishwasher?

Another option in getting rid of your dishwasher is contacting a recycling center.  You can find more information about your local transfer centers easily online.  Some areas even pick the appliance up for you, all you have to do is leave it on the curb.  If you are leaving it outside for pick up, remember to remove any dangerous parts, as well as doors so no small animals or children get trapped inside.

Getting a new dishwasher is wonderful, so keep the experience a positive one by finding a way to recycle your old appliance!
